Providing professional services for exterior repairs at the iconic John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a national presidential monument and living memorial, was a unique and rewarding challenge. We provided for the repair and refinishing of the iconic 60 foot high steel columns that dominate the perimeter of the facility and the complete replacement of the exterior curtainwall system at plaza and roof terrace levels. These two dominant features along with the exterior marble cladding are the defining historic elements associated with the center. Most challenging issues included; all repairs occurred while the center was fully operational, sound and heat transmission through the curtainwall system was drastically reduced, incorporation of blast resistant glazing and frame elements, and matching the finishes and profile of the original curtain wall system. Greatest compliment after completion, “I cannot see any difference from the original” was expressed by many patrons.
