WSSC Water - Anacostia Depot

Anacostia Depot is a facility owned and operated by WSSC Water, located in Hyattsville, MD. The personnel at the depot provide a wide variety of services for WSSC Water, including maintenance of infrastructure, meter reading, training, and other critical services. The facility consists of many aging buildings that require modernization and reorganization to improve efficiency, sustainability, security, and safety. Samaha prepared a master plan focusing on defining areas that require improvement and proposing solutions to address them. Following interviews with all user groups, the team identified two major concerns: the poor condition of major existing buildings and the problematic existing Lloyd Street entrance. The master plan included three options which ranged from complete replacement facilities in new locations on-site to renovating existing buildings.
 

Following completion of the Master Plan, WSSC Water chose to implement Option 2: Moderate New Construction. Samaha provided full design and construction administration services for the new facilities. The project includes demolition of the existing customer care building, facilities maintenance building, and meter & hydrant building. New buildings to be built on site include the administration building, radio shed, guard booth, various storage sheds, as well as an addition to the existing jet truck shed. Renovations will be conducted on the garage, heavy equipment shop, and fleet/warehouse building.​
