Orlean Volunteer Fire Station #11

Orlean Volunteer Fire Station #11

Marshall, VA

Size:

23,519 SF

This replacement station serves as a new home for the Orlean volunteer fire fighters and rescue personnel. The 23,519 SF design features four drive through apparatus bays, administrative offices, living quarters to support 24/7 staffing, and an exercise area. The station was originally conceptualized by Albert P. Hinckley, a long time resident and local architect, who designed the original station and graciously donated the land to make the new station possible. The design makes use of the sloping site and responded in appropriate materials and form to complement the site’s rural residential context. This sloping site allows for a large community area and commercial kitchen on the lower level while maintaining access on grade. Working together, our team vetted the program and finalized the design, optimizing the operational performance of the station with a focus on supporting the dedicated services the volunteers provide to their local community.
