Loudoun Heights Fire Station #26

Purcellville, VA

Size:

14,147 SF

Samaha led the team to creating a new fire station in Purcellville, Virginia by adaptively reusing portions of an existing residence to serve as the living and bunk space for the new facility. The 14,147 SF station includes construction of a drive through apparatus bay and associated support spaces, as well as an entry lobby providing a link between the two primary structures of the apparatus bay and the existing repurposed house. Some sustainable features include a 35% reduction in water use over conventional systems, extensive use of regional and recycled materials, and conditioning provided by a geothermal system with integrated heat recovery. Overall project modeling demonstrates an energy performance estimated at 32.3% below ASHRAE requirements.
